In a heartwarming collaboration, What A Waste recently partnered with Renaissance Hotels Kuala Lumpur, part of the Marriott Hotels group, to rescue an impressive 2,100 mooncakes, weighing over 393.75kg. These delicious festive treats were saved from being discarded and redistributed to feed the homeless, welfare homes, and B40 families in need, fostering a sense of unity and care across the community.
Beyond environmental conservation, What A Waste‘s mission aims to promote cross-cultural harmony and equality, particularly during festive seasons. By repurposing mooncakes, traditionally enjoyed during the Mid-Autumn Festival, the initiative brought joy to individuals from all walks of life, reinforcing the values of diversity and togetherness in Malaysia.
“We congratulate Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel for standing with us in the fight against food waste,” said a What A Waste spokesperson. “By preventing food waste, we are not only protecting the environment but also nourishing both bodies and hearts in a meaningful way.”
This initiative prevented over 980kg of greenhouse gas emissions, proving that collective efforts to reduce food waste can positively impact both the environment and the community. Together, What A Waste and Renaissance Hotels Kuala Lumpur have successfully spread joy, unity, and kindness across the city.
We at My Selangor commend What A Waste and Renaissance Hotels Kuala Lumpur for their remarkable efforts in rescuing food and redistributing it to those in need. This initiative not only supports the fight against food waste but also strengthens cross-cultural bonds and fosters a spirit of unity across diverse communities in Malaysia. Together, they’ve shown that sustainability can be achieved hand in hand with compassion. Well done!
