Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) has launched the LiKES initiative, part of KESUMA’s broader internship ecosystem. It aims to support SMEs and start-ups in providing structured internships. YB Steven Sim Chee Keong, Minister of Human Resources, announced a RM30 million allocation for LiKES, stressing the importance of internship-friendly environments, particularly in SMEs. LiKES, along with existing programmes like MySIP, aims to level the internship field for SMEs. Additionally, enhancements to the Industrial Training Scheme (ITS) were announced, allowing employers to use up to 50% of their levy balance towards ITS. The ceiling limit for monthly internship allowances under the ITS scheme has been removed. Engagement sessions are ongoing to develop the National Industrial Training Policy, set to launch in May 2024. LiKES covers internships up to 6 months, open to SMEs and start-ups. Eligible applicants must offer internships lasting a minimum of 10 weeks and provide a stipulated minimum allowance. TalentCorp will reimburse a portion of the allowance. Structured internships are highlighted as vital for talent development and addressing unemployment and skills mismatch. SMEs are encouraged to apply for LiKES to provide meaningful internship opportunities. LiKES is open for applications from 18th March 2024 onwards.
