In response to one of Malaysia’s worst floods, Alpro Pharmacy and telemedicine provider Doc2Us are collaborating to raise awareness about flood-borne diseases and emphasize the importance of medication adherence for chronic illness patients affected by the disaster. Alpro’s Chief Pharmacist, Ph Lim En Ni, highlighted the risks of diseases like leptospirosis, cholera, and dengue due to poor sanitation in flood-affected areas.
Leptospirosis is contracted through contaminated water, with symptoms including fever and muscle aches. Cholera, spread through contaminated food and water, can lead to severe dehydration if untreated. Dengue, transmitted by mosquitoes, may see a rise in cases due to standing water after floods.
To assist flood victims, Alpro Pharmacy is offering a one-time supply of chronic medications for up to 7 days at no cost. A police report is required for verification. Doc2Us provides free consultations and e-prescriptions for those who have lost their prescriptions. Both organizations stress the importance of continuing prescribed medications to avoid health complications.
