On the 17th of October 2023, an auspicious ceremony marked the commencement of the construction of a Waste-To-Energy (WTE) facility in Jeram, Kuala Selangor. This groundbreaking project is a collaborative effort between Worldwide Holdings Berhad (WHB) and Shanghai Electric Power Generation (M) Sdn. Bhd., aimed at transforming waste into a valuable energy resource.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, the esteemed Chief Minister of Selangor, who officiated the event. Accompanying him were notable figures including YB Dato’ Haji Haris Bin Kasim, the Secretary of the Selangor State Government, YB Tuan Ng Suee Lim, the EXCO for Local Government and Tourism of Selangor, YB Pn. Jamaliah Binti Jamaluddin, the EXCO for Public Health and Environment of Selangor, and YBhg. Datin Paduka Norazlina Binti Zakaria, the distinguished Chief Executive Officer of Worldwide Holdings Berhad (WHB).
The thermal plant’s construction, dedicated to the Waste-To-Energy (WTE) Integrated Solid Waste Management Centre (ISWMC) project in Jeram, is projected to initiate operations in the year 2026. This forward-looking initiative aims to revolutionize waste management practices, ensuring they are not only efficient but also environmentally sustainable and safe for the community.
The collaboration between WHB and Shanghai Electric Power Generation reflects a shared commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility. This venture aligns with the broader vision of advancing Selangor’s waste management infrastructure, fostering a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for the region.
As the Waste-To-Energy Plant takes shape, there is optimism that it will play a pivotal role in elevating the standards of waste management in Selangor.
