From February 18 onward, Malaysians aged 60 and above who have at least one chronic condition will be entitled to complimentary flu shots, the Health Ministry (MOH) has announced.
This move broadens the scope of the national flu vaccination programme, which was first introduced in 2006 and initially focused only on frontline medical personnel.
“This optional immunisation effort is set to assist more than 170,000 elderly individuals at higher risk,” the ministry stated.
It is part of the Elderly Healthcare Service Action Plan (PTPKWE) 2023-2030, unveiled by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad on October 1, 2024. The goal is to shield vulnerable seniors from serious flu-related health threats, including lung infections, heart complications, and blood poisoning.
Eligible recipients can begin booking their vaccination slots through the MySejahtera app from February 14, with availability depending on the gradual nationwide rollout of doses.
