Global Peace Foundation Malaysia (GPFM), a nonprofit dedicated to building resilient and cohesive Orang Asli communities, today proudly announced the launch of the AquaConnect Project in partnership with Micron Technology. With a donation of RM1 million, the initiative aims to address critical water accessibility issues faced by Malaysia’s indigenous Orang Asli communities.
The AquaConnect Project marks a transformative step in tackling water inaccessibility, which severely impacts many Orang Asli communities. Often isolated, these communities wrestle with unreliable and unsanitary water sources. To address this, AquaConnect will bring reliable water solutions by reconstructing gravity-fed water systems, installing new piping, and adding water sedimentation systems in four Orang Asli villages in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.
Over the next 12 months, AquaConnect will upgrade essential infrastructure and demonstrate a long-term commitment to the development and well-being of Malaysia’s Orang Asli. By addressing root causes of water scarcity, GPFM and Micron aim to improve health outcomes, foster community empowerment, and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in clean water and sanitation.
“Partnering with Micron on this project is a testament to our shared vision of empowering communities through sustainable initiatives. This project provides essential access to clean water for the Orang Asli and symbolizes our commitment to improving lives and building a future where every community can thrive independently,” said Dr. Teh Su Thye, CEO of Global Peace Foundation Malaysia.
“Micron is committed to embedding our sustainability goals in our business—from operations and manufacturing to community engagement,” said Amarjit Sandhu, corporate vice president of Assembly and Test NAND Operations at Micron Technology. “The AquaConnect Project addresses critical water accessibility issues faced by indigenous communities and exemplifies Micron’s support for initiatives benefiting our people, communities, and planet.”
As AquaConnect advances, GPFM calls on like-minded organizations, government agencies, and individuals to join this vital mission. Achieving water security is a shared responsibility, and with collective action, the impact of this project can extend far beyond its initial scope. Together, we can turn this vision into a reality.
