DAPUR Selangor ― Beyond a Recipe Book” is a publication that celebrates Selangor’s diverse culture and culinary heritage while honoring its history. The book showcases 56 recipes, representing each of the state’s constituencies, contributed by Pusat Wanita Berdaya (PWB) supervisors under the guidance of Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS). It features a wide range of dishes, including appetizers, snacks, desserts, and main courses, encompassing both traditional and modern flavors. Noteworthy recipes include the heritage dish Nasi Ambeng, along with favorites like tat bangkahulu, ayam buluh, nasi lemuni, curry chee cheong fun, coconut biscuits, and 3D-art jelly cake.
Three guest contributors, including Selangor’s public health committee chairman, Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, and celebrity chef Datuk Fazley Yaakob, have also shared their recipes. The idea for the book emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic as a creative project to unite the PWB supervisors and reflect Malaysians’ shared love for food and cooking, which is taught in PWB workshops.
DAPUR Selangor took a year to complete, involving conceptualization, recipe testing, and planning. WBS chairman, Dr. Siti Mariah, believes the book can serve as a unique corporate gift and intends to promote it through agencies like Tourism Selangor and Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI). While the initial edition of 1,500 copies primarily aims for promotion and internal distribution, 450 copies are available for public purchase. Dr. Siti Mariah hopes that DAPUR Selangor will evoke nostalgic memories and encourage families to bond over cooking. If there is demand, WBS may consider publishing an English version. DAPUR Selangor is priced at RM35 per copy and can be purchased online via Book Cafe’s website.
