The final week of Ramadan will see many vacant residences as people return home for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. This may worry homeowners who leave their houses alone.

Thankfully, there is a solution for this issue, and it comes in the form of an app called the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP). The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Rakan Cop community engagement programme allows the public to report suspicious activities, including images, videos, and GPS information, through this app.

“Balik Kampung,” a feature in the VSP app, lets users request the police check on their homes while they’re gone. Users may sign up for this service by providing basic information such as their state, trip dates, and home address on a form. This service is great since it is offered year-round.

This application provides an additional sense of security for travellers, whether during the Raya season or at any other time of year. The software is free and accessible on several platforms such as Google Play, Apple Software Store, and Huawei AppGallery, making it a practical and cost-effective alternative for homeowners anxious about leaving their homes unattended.
